Fifty Raffles Place (50RP) is a multi-concept collection of fine dining restaurants, sexy lounge bar, and exclusive lifestyle parties. SEAR is one of the hidden concepts that is lies within 50 RP. Nestled in the core of Singapore's Central Business District, SEAR is a glass penthouse restaurant bar located on the 45th level of Singapore Land Tower providing panoramic views of the city and overlooking the Marina Bay waterfront, as well as the civic and financial districts.

Joining SEAR to bask in the limelight are Empire which is a penthouse lounge, Angie's Oyster & Champagne Bar and finally Teikoku (opening in 2015) a promising Japanese inspired sake and tapas dining concept is set on the 46th level.
Decked out in dark wood and warm lighting, SEAR has set its sights on impressing its customers with an impeccable combination of top quality steaks and a priceless view. Open for both lunch and dinner, diners can expect a fulfilling meal of prime cut meats skilfully prepared by Executive Chef Claudio Sandri and this team.

The S$6,000 price tag Certified A4 Kobe rib eye (2kg) and Sturia Vintage Caviar (300g) Surf & Turf is a showstopper combination at SEAR that may raise some eyebrows since it is an ultimate meal fit for a king; but to some, it's a splurge-worthy piece of meat that you wouldn't mind sinking your teeth into and putting a serious dent in your wallet.

While you may not be able to afford the 2kg sheer size beef, you can still pamper yourself and grill up the prized A4 Kobe rib eye for a fraction of the whole (S$340 for 250g), or some of the slightly more chewy budget sirloin (S$88 for 300g).
SEAR promises to deliver only the best meats on its customers' plate; it has imported two  charcoal ovens from the Barcelona-based PIRA well known and appreciated for bringing out the meat's intrinsic flavour and goodness.

SEAR serves up well-executed steak with equally delectable accompaniments, which include Creamy sweet corn with corn kernels ($16) - a combination of charred bits and siphon creamy corn topped with shaved parmesan; Homemade lemon rosti ($15) - an invigorating mix of shredded potato sauteed with lemon juice and finished off in the oven; Maple Brussels sprouts, pig and nuts ($16) - a pancetta used for added scrumptiousness.

Other noteworthy options include Shoestring fries ($15); Creamed spinach ($16); Baked potatoes, gruyere, smoked peck, homemade sour cream ($15); Pira roasted vegetables ($16) and Onion rings & Nori salt ($16).
Homemade Lemon Rosti ($15)
Creamy Sweet Corn with Corn Kernels ($16)
Maple Brussels Sprouts, Pig and Nuts ($16)

It is apparent that beef is the star of the show here at SEAR, but the restaurant offers delectable seafood starters and non-beef dishes that are just as popular.

We are always skeptical of having bone marrow as the dish is certainly not for the weak of heart. It is an undervalued treasure that few would consider it an exquisite delicacy of some sort. The split bone marrow at SEAR is a brightly-coloured dish consists of beautifully unctuous marrow juxtaposed with a tangly parsley-onion-garlic-lemon juice persillade, compressed pickled watermelon and micro green. A clever flavour combination that capitalised on the tanginess of the sauce to help cut through the rich fat.
Split Bone Marrow ($28)

Lobster Cobb Salad ($32)

Heartier starter choices include Charred octopus ($26) on nutty Romanesco sauce made with roast peppers and tomatoes; Dry aged steak tartar ($38) with soft poached quail egg; Diver scallop ceviche ($28) marinated in fish stock, lemon juice, sugar and herbs; Lobster cobb salad ($32) and French Tsarskaya oysters on the half shell ($52 for half dozen).

If you are dining in a big group or saving your appetite for the meat, you can order the Angie's ocean platter which is nicely served up with Maine Boston lobster, Jumbo shrimp cocktail, Diver scallop ceviche, Oysters on the half shell and Alaska King crab leg.
Angie's Ocean Platter
($68 shares two, $128 shares three to four, and $238 shares five to six)

SEAR's Sips - When it comes to the drinks, SEAR is proud to feature a wide selection of American wines of rare vintage to choice from. Over 10 rare, world class and value-driven wines by the glasses are available and start at $16 each.

Juices, coffee and tea might be the obvious choice for anyone looking for a non-alcoholic option. On the sweet note, diners can look forward to the tasting dessert plate from the chef's selection available at $48 for four person, or simply go for the a la carte option.

The apple pie ($16) is paired with homemade honeycomb crumble and a yoghurt sorbet; while the Cheesecake ($15) is an indulgent take on a favourite with dark chocolate bubbles, sour berries and hazelnut lime liquor. Chocolate lovers will fall in love with the Chocolate mud cake ($15) made with soft chocolate brownie and marshmallows; and for those who enjoy a tangy finish will find solace in the Cinnamon doughnuts ($14) with citrus curd and lemon ice cream; or Pira grilled pineapples ($13) served with salted coconut and coconut sorbet.
The Tasting Dessert Plate ($48)

One of the better brunch places at Bukit Timah area, The Missing Pan not only serve Instagram-worthy all day brunch items, but also offer hearty, feel-good mains on their dinner menu. The Missing Pan recently introduced new gourmet mains and sharing bites that promises to take the spotlight of savouring a good meal with your family or friends.

Let's take a look at some of their pre-dinner shareable bites and new creations for the all-day dinner.

Starters
Chorizo Fiesta (Munch $10+)
There are two types of Chorizo commonly served in restaurants; one is the Mexican chorizo made with fresh ground pork and seasoned with spices, while the other is the Spanish chorizo made with cured or semi-cured chopped pork and seasoned with smoky Spanish paprika. The chorizo sausage served at The Missing Pan is from the Spanish type, and it is generally softer, spicier, longer and fatter than the regular ones. The Chorizo Fiesta has a slightly spicy flavor (although not as much as you think) with the additions of dried chill, gherkins and black olives, it added a wonderful extra layer of flavor to the dish. Served well as an entree itself, or you can share it with your friends and pair it with any main course.
Chargrilled Squid (Munch $12+)
A terrifically comforting dish is either you love it or you hate it, and I mean the chargrilled squid. This sustainable seafood item is an fantastic ingredient for easy dinners, as it cooks in no time and goes well with a variety of flavors. The squid is marinated with the chef's seasoning, chargrilled over medium heat, leaving the surface of the squid cooked through and served warm with fresh greens. The texture of the squid was soft and tender, you know immediately it was well executed, otherwise it will be chewy in texture.

Mains
Smoked Duck Risotto (Hot $25+)
The risotto absorbs the delectable flavours from the semi sun-dried tomatoes, herbs and homemade stock before being tossed with hojimeishi mushrooms, baby spinach and cubes of tender smoked duck breast to make a spectacular dish. The texture of the risotto was perfectly al dente and it had a good balance of flavours. The only shortfall for this dish was that I wish the duck breast could be slightly larger diced.
Mushroom Quesadillas (Munch $18+)
This quesadilla stuffed with wild mushrooms, capsicum, spanish onions and mozzarella is just the appetiser for any party or dinner occasion coming up. The tortillas were nicely toasted to crisp brown and with the melted cheese inside, you might need to get your hands dirty in order to enjoy. This is a perfect option for the vegetable enthusiasts.

Desserts
Frozen Honey Nougat (Dessert $12+)
I think The Missing Pan falls in the sweet department. This dessert bears close resemblance to a regular nougat, but with a frozen texture. The crunchy pistachio nuts and dried apricots make a stunning combination with the meringue sticks, however it tasted limp and only looks great.
Lychee Lemongrass Creme Brulee (Dessert $6+)
The creme brulee custard was infused with fresh lemongrass and lychee, then topped with a brittle layer of caramelised sugar. Taste-wise, the lychee flavor wasn't strong enough and was overpowered by the lemongrass, but it still manages to taste good on the tongue.
Passion Fruit Ivory Coconut Biscuit (Dessert $7.50+)
Grated coconut form the biscuit base of this dessert, with layer of passion fruit curd and a piece of white chocolate bar atop. This dessert took me by surprise as I didn't expect passion fruit and coconut would go well together. The slightly sour passionfruit complemented the sweetness of the coconut bits and white chocolate, I think it was light enough for one to finish, but sharing is always recommended.

Beverages
Lychee and Lemon Soda (Drinks $6+)
The Missing Pan showcases an alcoholic beverage list of craft beers and a small selection of imported ciders. For non-alcoholic refreshment, the Lychee and Lemon Soda is one of the all-time favourites at The Missing Pan

Despite some misses here and there, that doesn't subtract the overall good experience. I enjoyed most of the starters and mains, it's definitely worth visiting again.

The westies will be familiar with the name Joyden Seafood Restaurant serving up some of the best seafood in that region for more than ten years. The Joyden brand has set a new dining establishment - Joyden Canton Kitchen in the northwest of Singapore, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We heard that Joyden have plans to open another outlet next year, possibly with a different dining concept from its present and located somewhere in the east region of Singapore. There is always something to joy about no matter where you are.
Housed in a new mall in the residential neighbourhood of Hillview along Upper Bukit Timah, the spacious 120-seater boasts a casual dining concept ideal for families and friends to get together over a weeknight dinner. The restaurant features a contemporary interior design and offers a serene and laid-back atmosphere to its diners. At Joyden Canton Kitchen, you can expect an array of refined and comforting dishes at the most affordable prices.

The menu have been carefully curated by the owner and the culinary team at Joyden that involved a six-month process of extensive field trips to various parts of Guangdong Province and beyond, including multiple researches and kitchen tests to deliver the best of Joyden's original dishes to its customers. Here are some of the traditional and contemporary dishes offered at Joyden Canton Kitchen.
Crispy Golden Lotus Root Chips ($8)
Lotus Roots Chips, also known as Renkon Chips are served at Joyden Canton Kitchen as one of their appetiser dishes. I love eating crisp and these homemade lotus crisp are a healthy substitute, seasoned with fragrant spices and lightly fried to crispy, chewy perfection.
Chicken with Fresh Huai Shan and Wolfberry in Old Coconut Soup ($12.80)
A simple Chinese soup can be surprisingly tasty with just chicken and coconut as the ingredients. The chicken yields the fragrance and natural sweetness from the old coconut flesh unexpectedly over three hours of slow cooking and steaming. This is the simplest, yet tastiest chicken herbal soup I tasted so far, and I almost cannot believe my taste bud, but it is true.

Other nourishing claypot soups include perennial favourites such as Old Cucumber with Dried Oyster and Prime Rib Soup ($15.80) and Lotus Root with Dried Cuttlefish and Prime Rib Soup ($15.80). All the soup servings are good for 2 to 4 person.
Crispy Homemade Prawn and Pork Roll ($8.50)
Golden chunks of prawns, pork and water chestnut with sweet sauce dip is another appetiser dish on Joyden's menu. You can expect other starters such Crispy Eggplant with Pork Floss, Fried Carrot Cake with XO sauce, and two other tofu dishes. Not forgetting their signature appetiser, the Traditional Chicken Wings filled with Fragrant Glutinous Rice is also a must try.
Braised Homemade Beancurd Coin with Poached Shanghai Baby Cabbage ($14.80)
Those golden coin shaped like patties are made from homemade bean curd, seafood and vegetables then fried for a unique texture. Sitting on a bed of soft, young baby cabbage steamed in a viscous, milky and sweet superior pork broth. This signature dish is suitable for those looking for a healthy option, as it is packed with several nutritious components.
Joyden Signature Soy Sauce Chicken ($12 Quarter / $18 Half / $32 Whole)
Soy sauce chicken is probably one of the most popular Cantonese dish and the one at Joyden Canton Kitchen is a must try. The chicken is gently steeped in a secret blend of superior light sauce and other herbs, then skilfully poached to achieve that silky skin and tender, pull apart meat.

Rosewater, a special and traditional ingredient usually found in high end restaurants is used in the preparation of this dish. The perfume of the rosewater lifts a refreshing and subtle floral sweetness to the chicken, it turned a simple dish into a beautifully fragrant creation. You can order the Joyden Signature Soy Sauce Chicken in quarter, half or whole servings, I would recommend order a whole if your family are big eaters or at least half, and you will not regret.
Signature Traditional Hakka Salt Poached Farm Chicken ($17)
Another must try meat dish is the Traditional Hakka Salt Poached Farm Chicken, where the whole kampong bird is gently steeped with salt and herbal stock and then rested to fully absorb the flavours. Some Hakka or Cantonese restaurants offer salt baked chicken on the menu, but this is slightly different due to its preparation and cooking techniques. I personally prefer this chicken meat dish over the former, maybe because I am a Hakka and I am a little biased. The dish was well executed, it doesn't get unbearably salty and you are greeted with the haunting aroma and taste of the salt with the herbs. This is served well with Joyden's secret recipe ginger sauce.

Other recommended meat dishes include the Cantonese Roast Duck ($14/$27/$50), Signature Crispy Shar-Pi Roast Pork ($12) and Barbecue Pork Char Siew ($10).
Sliced Grouper Fillet with Pine Mushroom and Black Fungus in Rice Wine Broth ($17.80)
Claypot dishes are one of the key features on Joyden's menu. Here's a pot of comforting fish soup with sliced fillets from Grouper, a mild fish from the sea bass family known for its moist meat and high in oil content which can be paired with multiple food such as rice and vegetables and is great for cooking soup dishes. The flesh of the grouper is plump and tender, swimming in the delicately warm rice wine broth that doesn't scratch your throat or burn your tongue.

Fish Maw and Prawns with Glass Noodles in Homemade XO Sauce ($18.80)
I don't really fancy eating fish maw but this claypot dish of Fish Maw and Prawns with Glass Noodles in Homemade XO Sauce scored full marks in my book unexpectedly. This mouth watering dish stars a homemade XO sauce of dried scallops and premium Jin Hua Ham, that complements the chewy fish maw and springy glass noodles well. Although it was a little too spicy for me, it didn't stopped me from eating more.
Braised Pork Ribs in Aged Mandarin Peel Sauce ($16.80)
You will find many types of braised pork ribs cooked in a variety of sauces but few serve them in aged mandarin peel sauce, which is a refreshing spin on the typical coffee or champagne variations. The smoky taste of this braised pork ribs dish is quite different from the rest, that is because the recipe yields from Joyden's own unique recipe. The rib meat is juicy and succulent, coated with a wonderfully tasty sauce which goes well with steamed rice. Pork meat lovers should totally go for this dish.
Traditional Rice Vermicelli with Poached Egg White, Crabmeat and Scallop ($15.80)
This is somewhat similar to the silky Hor Fun with Egg (滑蛋河), but instead of flat rice noodles they used rice vermicelli coupled with crabmeat, scallop and special sauce for the silky smooth texture. This is definitely my go to comfort food, and with that lovely poached egg it will never go wrong.
Desserts ($4.50 each)
For desserts, there are only five selection on the menu and all centred towards the traditional Chinese dessert. They are Fresh Mango Pudding, Red Bean Soup with Glutinous Rice Dumplings, Homemade Herbal Guilin Jelly, Sago and Pomelo in Mango Juice and Beancurd skin with Barley and Gingko Nut Sweet Soup, each serving at $4.50.
Homemade Hawthorne and Apple drink ($4)
To complement every meal, sip on the cooling Homemade Hawthorne and Apple Drink, thoughtfully created to ease digestion and cleanse the palette. The drink is made fresh daily and comprises only natural ingredients and fruit.

Brilliantly simple and comforting, Joyden Canton Kitchen has won my heart and I am sure it will continue to win the palates of customers with their wholesome and superior Cantonese fare. For those who wish to enjoy their dim sum delicacies, they are available daily from 11:30am till 4:30pm.

Miam Miam, the casual French-Japanese artisanal cafe-restuarant turned one year recently, and I had the opportunity to revisit this popular cafe after many months to affirm the consistency of its signature dishes.

As you probably already know, Miam Miam brings together the flavours and ingredients of the Japanese cuisine and the culinary techniques of the French. The team at Miam Miam has a strong passion for food, and promises to deliver a consistently excellent experience to every customer at Miam Miam

The cafe-restaurant boasts a casual setting and enriched with a French-Japanese inspired menu that draws a huge crowd of families, working executives and teenagers especially. The menu prices are wallet friendly with the highest priced item only at $18.80, Miam Miam offers a range of delectable dishes made from scratch with quality ingredients.
Miam Miam French Toast $10.80
Miam Miam French Toast, a star creation and must try on the menu. The 'legendary' French Toast is unlike other ordinary French Toast, as their freshly made bread is thicker and denser, dipped in the egg mixture and pan fried lightly to crisp on the outside, while the inside remains soft, fluffy and buttery. Drizzle some maple syrup on the tasty French Toast and eat it together with the fresh cream.....Delicieux!
Riz Au Curry $15.50
Baked rice with homemade Japanese curry, pork frankfurters, broccoli, cheese and egg. We were told that the curry was produced with over 30 ingredients, I expected the curry flavour to be very intense; but on the contrary, the egg, frankfurters and broccoli cheese lends a sweet and savoury flavour to the curry rice, I must say that this dish was well executed.
Riz Noir Squid Ink Rice With Seafood $16.50
Squid ink rice with assorted seafood such as anchovies, squid and shrimp, is topped with a moist and fluffy Omu egg that gives a pretty good contrast to the dish. The rice was cooked to the right flavour and served with fresh cooked seafood.
Souffle De Nuage $17.80
A fancy version of omurice with a souffle instead of an omelette and stuffed with home-style fresh tomato sauteed rice inside. The soft and fluffy clouds are made of egg and cheese, I found that there wasn't any prominent taste in egg souffle, but fortunately the baked rice turned out good.
Miam Miam Spaghetti $16.80
One of the signature dish to try at Miam Miam. The pasta is al dente, well tossed and infused with flavours from the french butter, Miam Miam secret broth and shoyu. Sauteed with frankfurters, tomatoes, baby spinach & turkey ham, the pasta is topped with a beautiful soft boiled egg. Mixing the egg with other ingredients together will create a whole new characteristic to the taste and texture of this dish.
Chicken Teriyaki Spaghetti $16.80
Another pasta dish on the menu is the Chicken Teriyaki Spaghetti. The al dente pasta is served with pan seared chicken and Japanese leeks, then slathered with Japanese sauce and other condiments. I find that the chicken teriyaki spaghetti is not as exciting as the signature Miam Miam Spaghetti, and it doesn't have a mouth-watering effect as the former, maybe because it lacks an onsen egg.
Valrhona Chocolate Souffle $13.80
Souffle is always a big hit for dessert lovers, the ultimate dessert. I like the chocolate souffle at Miam Miam as it is decadent and has beautiful chocolate aroma. Needless to say, the Valrhona chocolate souffle is one of the most popular dessert on the menu.
Caramelised Banana Pancake $13.80
For those who love ice cream and pancakes, this pancake topped with premium vanilla soft serve, caramelised bananas and sprinkled with toasted almond nibs is an absolute must try. The homemade pancake is light and airy with the right amount of sweetness.
Matcha White Chocolate $7.80
The sweetness from the white chocolate is well balanced out by the matcha aftertaste. If you like sweet white chocolate and matcha tea, you will like this beverage.
Berries Soda $7.80
These berry beverages looks inviting to sip, and they are sweet with a sophisticated taste of real strawberries. I think the beverage was made from berries flavoured soda mix, but I couldn't care more as it was refreshing and light enough to be appreciated as a summer drink.
